Peter Kay in his Max guise watching Paddy busting some of his dance moves in an episode of 'Max and Paddy'

Tuning in to BBC Radio One’s the Chris Moyles show this morning we couldn’t believe our luck as our all time fave comedian Peter Kay was guest of honour and what as guest he was! I’m not ashamed to admit that I was laughing out loud whilst chomping on my porridge…and I was on my own. The neighbours will think I’ve finally lost the plot.

Peter Kay’s genius is that the roots of his comedy come from normal working class goings on. This morning I was in stitches as he recounted the tales of getting the Imperial Leather bar of soap out at Christmas (cos it’s posh int’it?!) and the man himself falls about laughing when, with a slip of the tongue, he calls himself Peter Gay. Cue a tirade of plays on words like ‘Some of my best friends are Kay’ and ‘Kay Pride’.

The funniest moment was Peter Kay being allowed to introduce his chosen record, ‘Cherish’ by Madonna. Saying it was his favourite because it was ‘Before she started acting like a ****’ (a bit like a tart!) even the usually mouthy Moyles was lost for words and could only cry ‘You can’t say that!”. Sheer genius.

The reason why Peter Kay was in the studio was to talk about BBC Children in Need (http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/) which is happening tonight, Friday the 20th November. The comedy genius has been lending a hand and had compered at a fundraising gig organised by Take That’s Gary Barlow.

He did, however, managed to crow bar in that fact that he is on tour for the first time in seven years and the tickets are on sale on t’internet via his splendidly eccentric website www.peterkay.co.uk. If you think you’re cut out for this stand up comedy malarky, you could do worse than go on one of our comedy weekend breaks. Packed full of advice and guidance by pro comedy script writers, by the end of the weekend you’ll be entertaining your fellow comedy workshops members with tales of Rola Cola and garrrllic bread!

Let the creative juices as flow as you carve yourself an ice sculpture

Let the creative juices as flow as you carve yourself an ice sculpture

As much as we love him, we’re not talking about 80s pop ’sensation’ Vanilla Ice. We’re talking about ice sculpting - quite literally the coolest art form there is and we’re now offering it as one of our creative activity gift voucher ideas.

One of London’s top ice sculptors will welcome you in their workshop in Wimbledon, south London and show you around. The first thing that’ll you notice is the mind-boggling array of tools used to carve the ice. With drills, large-tooth saws and chisels, you could be excused for thinking you’d walked on the set of the a good old fashioned horror movie, but fear not you’ll use these tools to help shape your unassuming block of frozen water into a veritable artwork worthy of a place in the Tate.

To get you started in ice sculpting you are charged with carving a small block of ice. What we can’t quite get our heads around is that you get to take home your mini masterpiece. Does this mean you have to keep your work of art in amongst the chicken nuggets and ice cubes in your home freezer to preserve it for all time? Will it even make it to yours without tragically melting on the way home?

Either way, your next challenge is the big one. You will be presented with a 28kg block of ice that’s been freshly prepared by the in-house technicians (yes, all the ice is made at the workshop following special recipes!). You then work in pairs to drill, carve and chip away at the block to create your ice sculpture.

What you decide to aim for is entirely up to you and we’ve seen some very interesting results - from large vases and shell shaped table centre pieces to boat and fish shaped wine coolers, so let your imagination go wild!

We’re offering this new ice sculpting experience for individuals, pairs or even groups of up to 30, making this a top choice for birthday parties, works dos and corporate events. Prices start at £123 per person for the half day workshop.

So if Britain’s Got Talent, have you?!

Friday, April 17th, 2009

We were on a verrrry long cross-channel ferry to France on Saturday night (like you do) and we were pretty much beside ourselves when we realised we could get ITV on the telly. So, ignoring the distinct pitch and roll of the big ship Pont Aven, we settled down with a nice cuppa to watch the first episode of Britain’s Got Talent.

And what a show-opener it was! We nearly spluttered on our tea as soon as we heard the first pitch-perfect notes of ‘I dream a dream’ being sung by 47 year old church helper Susan Boyle. Susan, bless her, who can only be described as ‘dowdy’, blew away the judging panel and the audience, who had clearly been cynically assuming the worst and reaching for the earplugs before she even began.

What made us laugh most was Simon Cowell’s expression changing from despair to big fat £££ signs! Since the show, over 18 million people have watched Susan’s performance on YouTube, making it the most viewed YouTube video in the world this month!

Have you got a creative talent just waiting to be discovered?

Maybe you or someone you know has a creative talent just waiting to be discovered?

The whole show made us feel all warm and cosy inside. It seems Britain really has got talent and sometimes it’s amazing what talent can be hidden. We reckon this feel-good sort of TV should inspire us all to try something new, as maybe there’s a hidden talent in us all?

Have a look through the ‘Learning and Creative’ section on the Into the Blue website and you’ll find singing, dancing, DJing, glass blowing, jewellery making, circus performing and western skills experiences, all there to tempt you to try something just that little bit creative and different.

And we doubt you’re interested, but just to finish off the story, we made it to Brittany (the place in France, not Spears) in one piece!
