Credit crunchable clay pigeon shooting

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

With the credit crunch still biting into our wallets, staying in could be the new going out, but with our clay pigeon shooting experiences starting at just £29 per person, everyone can afford a little fun in their lives!

Shoot clay pigeons from just £29 per person - bargain!

Shoot clay pigeons from just £29 per person - bargain!

One of our most popular activities for stag, hen and corporate outings, this clay pigeon venue is in the heart of the Ashcombe Estate near Dawlish in Devon. If you are organising a group event for three to six people, you can book online with no faffing and no lengthy ‘phone calls to make  - and it will only cost you £29 per person.

Your group clay pigeon experience starts with the handing out of all the gear, followed by one to one tuition on how to handle the gun and aim for the targets. Just in case you were wondering, it’s not real game you’ll be aiming for but clay pigeons fired out of automatic traps, so even the vegetarians amongst your little group will be happy.

The whole experience will last between an hour and an hour and a half and you’ll have 25 clay targets to aim for - and believe us, they come in all shapes and sizes with names like ‘driven pheasant’, ’springing teal’ and ‘dropping duck fly’!

The clay pigeon taster sessions also make for a more unusual family day out, as those as young as 14 years old can take part, so if you’re in the Dawlish area on holiday, this is an exhilarating day out you won’t forget in a hurry.

Do a bungee jump off the famous transporter bridge in Middlesborough

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

Combine bungee jumping with one of the most iconic pieces of civil engineering in the UK and you’ve got a really rather unique high-adrenaline experience.

Get ready to jump 160ft from the Transporter Bridge

Get ready to do your 160ft bungee jump from the Transporter Bridge

The transporter bridge in Middlesborough welcomes you as soon as you drive into the city, spanning the River Tees to connect the centre on the south bank with Port Clarence on the north bank.

Opened in 1911, the bridge is one of only three in daily use in the world and the people of Middlesborough are, quite rightly, very proud of this magnificent piece of Victorian engineering which dominates their skyline.

Normally to use the bridge you drive or walk into a kind of cradle that then glides along to take up to 900 passengers or nine cars onto the other side of the river bank in around two minutes.

However, for this, the only bridge bungee experience in the UK, you’ll be walking up the 210 steps up to the top of the bridge, then another 150ft along to the jump zone in the middle of the bridge - just the walk to top is an adrenaline rush and the views from the top are an experience in themselves too!

A real work of engineering in Middlesborough and you'll have to climb up it to jump off it!

A real work of engineering in Middlesborough and you'll have to climb up it to jump off it!

We have to admit you would SO never get us to do this experience, but we know plenty of people who would volunteer to throw themselves 160ft (51m) off a bridge attached to a length of rubber cord, no problem!

In fact, the activity is so popular you need to make sure you book well in advance, as the places are extremely limited and the company only has permission to run these days once per month on a Sunday.

Go for the bullseye with an archery lesson

Go for the bullseye with an archery lesson in Sherwood Forest

Archery is an ancient sport that requires control and accuracy skills, but is actually great fun to learn too - especially when it all takes place in a forest glade, deep in mystical and magical Sherwood Forest.

We’ve actually been to this archery centre when we headed to Nottinghamshire on a hen weekend. The setting really is lovely and peaceful (well, it was peaceful until we turned up!) and the archery teachers are all very patient.

The best thing about this archery lesson experience is that there is not a huge amount of waiting about or theory stuff to plough through, so you feel like you are really getting value for money, as you have plenty of time to shoot at the targets.

We were a bit worried we might not be able to pull back and fire the bow, but we needn’t have worried, as there are several different sizes of bow and you don’t need to be that strong to fire the arrows.

Our first go was, quite frankly, hilarious as we somehow managed to get the arrow on the wrong side of the bow and the arrow wanged off into the distance at a very strange angle! Once we’d been corrected we were off. It’s actually a really good exercise in concentration, balance and breathing as you focus on hitting that bullseye.

We spent about an hour in the range and this length of time is just right, as it gets quite tiring, especially if it’s your first time. By the end of the session, we had even hit a couple of bullseyes that Robin Hood would’ve been proud of! Great fun.
