Get to meet these magnificent Shire horses and learn all about this most famous breed of working horse

Get to meet these magnificent Shire horses and learn all about this most famous breed of working horse

These two new outdoor adventure experiences we’ve just added make us feel all warm inside. It’s something about harking back to a more genteel, simple way of life before we all joined the rat race full of horrendous traffic jams, when Shire horses clip-clopped along the cobbled streets and the local public house was the centre of village life….

It all sounds very ‘Heartbeat’ doesn’t it? And it really is. Whether you choose the Horse Pub Run experience, where you’ll be taken to a country pub in a open country carriage pulled by two fine Shire horses, or go for the full day Shire horse experience where you get a real in sight into the life of an ostler, it’s a fun day out in the Essex countryside for all ages.

And in case you’re wondering, an ostler is the proper term for someone charged with looking after guests’ horses at the Inn - sadly replaced by valet car parking these days!

A ride the to pub with a difference : enjoy a horse drawn carriage ride and a pub lunch. Perfect!

Whichever Shire horse experience you go for, you will have plenty of time to find out all about Shire horses as the expert stable hands with you will tell you all about where the name Shire horse comes from, about their distinctive white socks and ‘feathers’ and how they really were the strongest working horses around for many years.

Both experiences include the horse drawn carriage ride to the local pub, as well as a meal at the pub and the ride back to the stables.

New from Wembley Stadium : One, two, three..bungee!

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

We reckon you’ve got to be just a little bit mad to want to do a bungee jump in the first place, but to throw yourself off a crane in front Wembley Stadium really is taking this bungee jumping malarky to the next level, but it seems you adrenaline fiends just can’t get enough of this new bungee venue.

Your chance to bungee jump in front of Wembley Stadium - if you dare!

Your chance to bungee jump in front of Wembley Stadium - if you dare!

Since (finally) opening in 2007, the Norman Foster designed stadium has won over the nation. One for the pub quiz factfile, George Michael was the first music concert to take place in the stadium, but the altogether cooler Muse were the first lot to actually sell out the stadium. Since then, the rock legend likes of Foo Fighters, Metallica, Oasis and er…Madonna have been wowing the stadium crowds.

It may have been horrendously expensive and late, but with the 90,000 seats it’s the second largest stadium in the Europe and makes for a very distinctive north London skyline with that famous arch. In fact, you’ll be jumping right in front of the 1040ft high arch, so expect some really quite impressive photos!

A bungee crane at 160ft will be set up in the grounds in front of Wembley Stadium, with a massive air cushion below. You’ll be kitted up with all the safety harnesses by members of the jump team, before being handed over to the jumpmaster for the final preparations. After the jumpmaster makes that infamous call ‘One, two, three…bungeeeeeeeeeeee’ it’s over to you, as you dive head first into fresh air right in front of our new Wembley Stadium. A truly awesome experience which is reserved for only the biggest adrenaline hunters…

Experience the thrill of the Apache rally car

Experience the thrill of the Apache rally car

Never ones to turn down an invitation to check out some of the activities we offer for sale on Intotheblue.co.uk, we jumped at the chance to spend an afternoon visiting the outdoor adventure and off road centre near Redhill in Surrey.

We offer archery lessons, quad biking for adults and kids, apache rally buggy driving, 4×4 off-road (newly expanded) and clay pigeon shooting at this stunning venue within the grounds of a country house hotel. Set in over 250 acres, you’ll enjoy the superb views surrounded by woods, a lake, hills and fields - and we very much enjoyed the 4×4 Land Rover Discovery tour around the grounds on arrival at the venue.

No time to waste then, as we climbed aboard an Apache rally car for one of the fastest and most thrilling passenger rides we have ever been on (even scarier than riding shotgun in Grandad’s Fiesta when he drove us to France!). You feel SO low to the ground that you’re sure your heels are going to scrape the mud beneath the chassis. The Apache slips and slides all over the shop at ridiculously fast speeds, with mud flying up all around you. Great fun and we were just passengers, so imagine the thrill as you’ll actually be driving the thing!

Next up was quad biking. The bikes are really easy to drive and we soon got the hang of the handling and before we knew it, we were quite niftily zipping around the trials course and we even gave the quad bike limbo a go. We then left the motor sports behind and headed to the archery  stadium to have a go at shooting a few arrows.

The quad bikes are easy to ride and great fun too

It’s the first time we’ve had a go at this Robin Hood malarky and fortunately the instructors showed infinite patience as they carefully explained everything - from how to hold the bow and place the arrow, to tips on stance and aim. We confess a couple of our arrows landed in the white areas outside the target, but before long we we hitting the yellows no problem!

The only activity we didn’t have time to try was clay pigeon shooting, but we can say that the setting at Redhill is just lovely and we really enjoyed our afternoon out. The ‘Old Barn’ reception building is very welcoming, with brand new toilets on site too and lots of opportunities for friends and families to spectate.
