Grab your Yorkie and get truckin' in Yorks, Warks or Surrey

Grab your Yorkie and get truckin' in Yorkshire, Warkwickshire or Surrey

We’re SO excited about this new lorry driving experience - quite simply because we love trucks!

Whenever we head off on the motorway we play ‘HGV bingo’, which basically means we tally up every Norbert Dentressangle, Willi Betz and Eddie Stobart lorry we spot and, for some reason, if you see a Pratt’s Bananas lorry that’s the bonus ball that makes it BINGO! And no, we’re not making this up…

Back in the real world, this new Into the Blue lorry driving experience is great because you get to drive a proper DAF XF lorry - and there’s no need for an LGV driving license as you’ll be on a special off road circuit. In fact, this experience really is quite cool  because you’ll be driving a lorry used to transport sports cars used at the venue.

It's a bonus ball lorry! See, we weren't making it up - thanks Gray and Adams

These lorry driving experiences take place at rather special venues too. You can choose from the ex-military airfield at Elvington in Yorkshire, the actual Prodrive track in Kenilworth or the professional test track in Chobham.

Once you’ve clambered inside, you’ll start with some manoeuvres like negotiating cones and even having a go at the fine art of reversing using just the door mirrors - perhaps just as well you’re safely off road with no other cars around!

All in all these new lorry driving experiences are a great gift to give for anyone you think would like to have a go at being a proper King or Queen of the road for day!

Go head to head in some really super supercars in Stafford

As our Mum said on seeing this picture 'You've got that determined look on your face'. Hmmm

As our Mum said on seeing this picture 'You've got that determined look on your face'. Hmmm

On our recent visit to this rallying and supercar operator in Staffordshire, the guys and girls told us about this new supercar head to head experience that they are now offering - and it’s a good one!

You get to choose to drive two cars from a pool of four of the finest supercars out there at the moment : the Audi R8, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 360, and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. We have to say, it’s not often you find yourself in such a quandary, so make the most of it.

We were lucky enough to take a drive in the Audi R8 and we have to say it was absolutely amazing. Climb into the driver’s seat and the first thing you notice is the rather odd-shaped steering wheel. It’s not completely round - there’s a flat bit at the bottom. Then there’s the six speed gear box. It’s one of those click-clack style ones with exposed metal gate and believe us there’s such a temptation to look down when you’re changing gear.

With all these little idiosyncrasies, the Audi R8 really is a very special car and you’ll know just what we mean when you get it roaring up the high speed straights - it’s such a head turner of a car.

If you choose the head to head experience in Stafford you get six driving laps in each of the two supercars you choose, so you’ve plenty of time to decide which is your favourite.

After that, it’s time to be a passenger, as one of the expert drivers takes you on a high speed passenger ride. We hopped in to the RS Ford Focus not expecting much to be honest (afterall, it looks just like our Auntie’s Ford Focus and she never goes over 65mph). Little did we know the combination of a very souped-up racing Ford Focus + championship winning driver = an eye-poppingly fast ride around the circuit with the back end wobbling and tyre smoke to boot! Truly awesome.

Be the star in that reasonably-priced car

Be a Star in a car and race against the clock to hit the top of the leaderboard

Be a Star in a car and race against the clock to hit the top of the leaderboard

The ‘Star in a reasonably-priced car’ is one of our favourite segments on Top Gear, when you watch the likes of Harry Enfield, Simon Cowell and Gordon Ramsay battling with the family saloon car  to get the fastest lap they can, to make sure they don’t disgrace themselves on the celebrity leaderboard.

What really make us laugh is the onboard camera footage - much comedy when Michael Gambon clipped the last corner on two wheels, leading to Jeremy Clarkson re-naming the bend in his honour. Then there was American crooner Lionel ‘Hello’ Ritchie who managed to lose a wheel, as did Trevor ‘Shoestring’ Eve. Who could forget David Soul who, despite playing top cop Hutch in Starksy and Hutch, managed to burn out not one, but two clutches on the long suffering family saloon car.

Yachtswomen Ellen MacArthur posted the all time fastest lap in the Suzuki Liana and since then the leaderboard was wiped clean as Top Gear now uses a Chevrolet Lacetti as the reasonably-priced car, with Jay Kay pipping Kevin ‘Grand Designs’ McCloud for the coveted top spot.

So how cool would it be to have a go yourself? Well, now you can as Into the Blue has just signed up a ‘Star in a car’ experience at a special sprint circuit just outside Birmingham. There’s even more than pride at stake with this experience too, as your racing lap time will be recorded on the leaderboard, with the five fastest drivers at the end of the season being invited back to go head to head to be crowned as THE ‘Star in the car’ and walk away with a £1000 prize - enough for a deposit on a reasonably-priced car for yourself!

Remember just like in the TV show, every grimace and word will be captured by onboard cameras!

We’re really quite excited about this new ‘Star in the car’ activity and we’ve put it straight on sale so you can buy it for a loved one as a very special Christmas present this year. Oh and just like the real ‘Star in a reasonably-priced car’, there’ll be onboard cameras to catch every grimace, grunt and comment you make that can captured on DVD for you to laugh at!
